We don’t have predefined limits for this, as our on line underwriting system assesses the answers given to the various medical and life style questions, and based on those answers, decides if a medical examination or doctor’s report is required. Basically, once our operators have been through the questions with you, which takes 5 minutes, we can tell you straightaway what further medical information, if any, is required.

Your mortgage and a life cover policy are not directly linked. A life policy is a specific contract between you and an insurance company to provide a pay out on your death within a set period of time. Some lenders will insist on a life cover policy being in place to ensure that your dependants are in a position to repay the loan. Indeed some will ask that the policy be assigned to them. Other lenders do not require specific cover to be in force, but leave it up to each individual person to make appropriate arrangements as they see fit

Age - The older you are the higher the premium
Sex - Women live longer than man and are therefore cheaper to insure.
Health - height, weight, medical history and lifestyle are all assessed
Smoker Status - Smoking will increase the premium by an amount dependent on how much you smoke and/or your past smoking history.

In the event of death within the policy term, or diagnosis of a terminal illness, provided that diagnosis is at least 18 months before the policy expires – or on diagnosis of a critical illness if that cover has been chosen.
